The Butler School District 53 Board of Education at its meeting Nov. 6 approved the appointment of Dr. Sanjay Rao as a new Board member. Dr. Rao is an eye surgeon and the Director of Refractive, Cornea and Advanced Anterior Segment Surgery at Lakeside Eye Group in Chicago.

District’s 53 has a strong commitment to whole child learning. At its Sept. 17 meeting, the Board of Education heard a report on the tenets of whole child learning and how the schools support social, emotional, health and physical education for students.

Beauty and the Beast

Thanks to of the generous community endowment fund created by the Paul Butler family, Butler District 53 families and all Oak Brook residents are invited to attend a performance of Beauty and the Beast at the Drury Lane Theatre.

Butler School District 53 Board of Education President Dr. Elizabeth Chun resigned from the Board after completing eight years of distinguished service to the children and families of the district.

The Butler School District 53 Board of Education and the Oak Brook Education Association (OBEA) have agreed to a new five-year contract covering the 46 full-time and 10 part-time faculty members in the District.

After five years leading Butler School District 53, Superintendent Dr. Heidi Wennstrom notified the Board of Education that she will retire at the end of the 2018-19 school year. The Board has immediately begun the process to search for a replacement.

The Butler School District 53 Board of Education has announced the appointment of Laura Bieselin as a new Board member.

Butler District 53 Superintendent Dr. Heidi Wennstrom was honored for her long-time support of education with a Distinguished Service Award of Excellence by the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association’s (INSPRA).

Fifty-nine 8th grade students celebrated their years at Brook Forest and Butler Junior High during their May 30 commencement.

Dozens of Brook Forest and Butler Junior High students were recognized at the District 53 Board of Education meeting May 14, 2018.
