Please welcome Laura Bieselin, who was sworn in as our newest Board member on June 25. Bieselin, an attorney, is a former District 53 student who returned to Oak Brook several years ago to raise her family.  She was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Cabin Kim who resigned in May. The term expires in April 2019.

Bieselin and her husband are the parents of a young daughter who will be attending District 53 schools. She said she sought the appointment to work with the Board to retain and enhance the educational excellence of District 53. “I am looking forward to executing the Board's goals to optimize opportunities for our students to learn, engage and grow.”

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Juris Doctor, with a Certificate in Intellectual Property, from the Chicago-Kent College of Law.  While in private practice, she represented a diverse sampling of clients in complex litigation and transactional matters.

She said she believes Brook Forest and Butler Junior High gave her a strong foundation. “This is such a special place, and I am honored to join this dynamic Board. The District provided me with such a strong foundation during my own time as a student and I look forward to serving this amazing community.

The Board interviewed seven applicants on June 7, which they said were impressive not only for their experience but also for their dedication to education and District 53.  The Board voted on the appointment following the interviews. “The Board was extremely impressed with the qualifications and enthusiasm of all the candidates,” said Board President Dr. Elizabeth Chun.  “We are fortunate to have a candidate of the caliber of Mrs. Bieselin,” she said.

Kim had resigned because he and his family were relocating.
