Brook Forest Art teacher Mike Divelbiss was named as the 2019 Illinois Elementary Art Educator of the Year by the Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA). The award is the highest given to art educators in the state.

The Butler School District 53 Board of Education has named Andrea Prola as the new Principal of Butler Junior High and Melissa Zaniewski as the new Assistant Principal. Both are current educators and leaders in District 53.
Superintendent Elect Dr. Paul O’Malley has released the results of the survey of faculty, parents and staff on the attributes desired in the hiring of a new principal at Butler Junior High.
Eighty-one Butler Junior High students crossed the stage to receive their diplomas during commencement ceremonies May 29. The Butler Junior High Graduation Band performed the traditional Pomp and Circumstance and the Graduation Choir performed the Class Song, For Good.

Butler Junior High Principal Ms. Amy Read notified the Board of Education following its meeting on May 12, 2019 that she will be resigning effective June 30, 2019. She has accepted the role of principal of Herrick Junior High School in Downers Grove School District 58, effective July 1, 2019.

All parents of children in the Hinsdale Central feeder schools are invited to hear a TED Talk speaker discuss protecting their children from online predators and bullying and other internet safety issues. The Parent Night is offered by Butler School District 53’s social work and technology department.
The District 53 newsletter, Newsline, was recently published and distributed to the Oak Brook District 53 community. It contains news of the appointment of new superintendent Dr. Paul O’Malley, using innovative technology to engage our students and news about the Science Fair at Brookfield Zoo, the Butler Junior High International Day and the alternative/remote learning days.
It features the District’s three- pronged goals: ambitious instruction, community engagement and exemplary value. We are proud of the strides Butler District 53 has been making in our journey of excellence and remain committed to a continuous improvement model that builds upon our historical success.
Butler District 53 students and their families are invited to learn about STEM and participate in STEM activities at Brook Forest School STEM Night. It will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. March 21 at Brook Forest, 60 Regent Dr. Oak Brook. It was originally scheduled for February but canceled and rescheduled because of extreme weather conditions.
The Butler School District 53 Board of Education has named Dr. Paul O’Malley to the district’s top administrative role as Superintendent of Schools beginning July 1, 2019. He will succeed Dr. Heidi Wennstrom, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Illinois ASCD, an association of educators dedicated to excellence in learning, teaching and leading, has awarded Butler District 53 with its Whole Child Award for Healthy - one of the five tenets of whole child learning.
