Superintendent's Message - December 16, 2022

Dear D53 Families and Staff:

As I look back upon the first half of the school year, as a school district community, we have much to be proud of - the completion of Phase I of our Capital Improvements Vision, another National Blue Ribbon School Award; this time for Brook Forest Elementary, the initial roll out of our Otus Personalized Learning software, and the many daily components that make our district a wonderful place to learn and teach.

In follow up to the conversations around school transportation and after an initial discussion with the members of the Superintendent's Advisory Committee on Transportation, we are asking the larger school district community for your assistance in providing feedback as we continue our planning meetings. Please click here to share your feedback on District 53 transportation by 4pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.

Additionally, after winter break, First Student, our bus company, will be rolling out their FirstView ParentView product to District 53 families, which provides real-time tracking of your assigned bus route(s). Mr. John Hamilton will be sharing further information from First Student about this enhanced service.

On behalf of all of us at Butler School District 53, I wish you and your families a happy and wondrous holiday season and a terrific new year! The first day of winter break is Thursday, December 22. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

Stay well, be safe!

Dr. Paul O'Malley
Superintendent of Schools
