04.16.21 Letter to Families and Staff

Dear Butler D53 Families and Staff,

Please join me in thanking the outgoing members of the Butler School District 53 Board of Education - Mr. Christopher Edmonds, Dr. Sally Beatty, Mr. Ahmad Sulaiman, and Mr. James Chow. I am so appreciative of your commitment to our school community, furthering educational excellence, and your willingness to give of your time and talents. Thank you for all that you did in service to our students, families, staff, and community Beyond All Limits.

Because of their hard work and adherence to a strong governance model, Butler School District 53 has pioneered in-school COVID-19 testing opportunities, modeled a full-service school for our community and continues to pilot models to support our student and staff mental health and social-emotional needs. We made all the necessary physical adjustments to our buildings to enhance air quality. So that our teachers and students remain healthy and safe, and have a third-party monitoring partner to assure we remain compliant with all federal, state, and local guidelines.

Furthermore, at the Board of Education meeting on Monday evening, the Board of Education approved an investment in the enhancement of the district's technology infrastructure and classroom technology as well as the virtual Summer School course catalog to continue to evolve our district's use of the Flip the Classroom Model Program. We are grateful for their visionary leadership! While registration will not open until April 30, 2021 for summer school, I encourage you to view the course catalog to see the diverse course offerings by our talented Butler School District 53 teachers. We are looking forward to a great summer of learning!

Lastly, our school district will welcome the newly elected individuals who will serve on our Board of Education once the results have been certified by DuPage County Board of Elections. President Edmonds has been in contact with county officials. A Special Board of Education Reorganization meeting will be announced early next week to the full Butler School District 53 community for the adjournment of the current board members and installation of newly elected members. I look forward to continuing to partner with the Board of Education, fulfilling our strategic plan, and focusing on the high performing, quality education received within our District.

Stay well, be safe,.

Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools
