2.26.21 Letter to Families and Staff

February 26, 2021

Dear Butler School District 53 Families and Staff,

We received a brief glimpse of spring weather this week and with that brings much excitement and hope for warmer days! This hope and optimism extends beyond the weather to the administration of the second dose of COVID-19 vaccinations for our District 53 faculty and staff who elected to receive their vaccination through the District.

In order to accomplish the next phase of our vaccination plan, District 53 is making an adjustment to our school day on Friday, March 5, 2021. ALL students will learn remotely during the morning. All learning will conclude by 12:00pm. Further information, details, and schedule will be communicated by your building principal. This adjustment allows our District 53 faculty and staff to receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination.

While this progress is long-anticipated and exciting, I remind everyone that District 53 remains committed to our rigorous safety guidelines, protocols, and testing availability;  the health and safety of our students and staff remains our utmost priority.

COVID-19 testing remains available at the Brook Forest Health Office during school hours of 8:15am-3:00pm for the entire District 53 community. Prior to arriving for testing, each person must fill out the consent form for each test to be administered. Once the consent form has been submitted, the District nurse professional automatically receives a copy and will be prepared for testing. Consent forms can be found on the District website under COVID-19 Resources.

As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, March 1st in recognition of Casimir Pulaski Day. Have a wonderful long weekend.

Stay well, be safe-

Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools
