2.5.2021 Letter to D53 Families and Staff

Dear Butler School District 53 Families and Staff,

Just under 90 District 53 faculty, staff, administrators and other building stakeholders have taken the opportunity to receive vaccinations yesterday, today, and tomorrow. This great opportunity, in collaboration with District 86, Gower 62, and other feeder school districts has provided dedicated vaccinations for our Phase 1b professionals who have been working in-person throughout this pandemic. Special thanks to Superintendent Mark Cross of D63 for coordinating this initiative with Osco Pharmacy, and being instrumental in making this possible.

In addition to these dedicated appointments, District 86 is offering vaccinations to members of our district community who are 65 or older. This service will be provided free of charge with doses being administered on February 10th (first dose) and March 3rd (second dose). District 86 has approximately 750 doses of the vaccine that will be administered to community members. If you are 65 or older, live in Oak Brook and are interested in this opportunity, please fill out District 86's form to demonstrate your interest and availability.

While we are pleased that our staff has the opportunity to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations, we remain ever vigilant in our adherence to the safety, cleaning, and distancing guidelines established within our school communities. We know that this focus and dedication will continue to keep our schools healthy and safe.

Please remember that District 53 offers COVID-19 testing at the Brook Forest Elementary School Health Office with rapid antibody and antigen testing available on-site and a take home PCR test available through Ambry Genetics. More detailed information as well as consent forms are available on the District website. This testing is available to ALL members of the District 53 community. Please help us in spreading the word to your neighbors.

We will begin the process of administering the 2021 5Essentials Survey. Our students and staff will complete this survey in school during the first week of March. We need the assistance of our parents to complete their surveys over the next few weeks. Building principals will be communicating specific windows and links. This online survey, administered by the University of Chicago on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness. Your feedback is important to us.

Stay well, be safe.

Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools
