Dear Butler D53 Parents and Staff,
The purpose of this letter is to notify our school community of a positive case of COVID-19 at Brook Forest Elementary. Prior to and since receiving the notification, our district has followed all protocols to ensure our campus remains safe, including collaboration with the DuPage County Health Department, and following IDPH and CDC guidelines.
The individual was last in Brook Forest Elementary on Monday, November 2, 2020 and became symptomatic that evening. On Monday, November 9, 2020, the individual received a positive result and notified the district on the same day.
In following local health agency protocols, and following their guidance, the district thoroughly assessed the circumstances and identified that an individual had been in "close contact" with the individual during their infectious period (starting October 31st). The individual who was identified as a close contact in school has been notified in a separate communication. The District was also notified that probable close contact occurred outside of school and the exposed individual(s) was notified. The Illinois Department of Public Health defines "close contact" as any individual who is within six feet of a COVID-19 positive individual for 15 minutes or longer, even while wearing a mask.
The district progress monitors weekly in an effort to ensure compliance with local health department guidelines and protocols. Beyond All Limits, we continue to recommit to the established standards to ensure our schools remain safe, secure, and healthy.
