11.9.2020 Positive COVID Notification Outside of School

November 9, 2020

The below notification represents an individual who was NOT in the school building during the individual's infectious period. The DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) "continues to recommend notification of new cases for school community awareness, since students and/or staff may have contact outside of school and knowledge of ongoing COVID-19 activity may help inform their actions to prevent spread.”

Dear Butler D53 Parents and Staff,

The purpose of this letter is to notify our school community of a positive case of COVID-19 at Butler Junior High. Prior to and since receiving the notification, our district has followed all protocols to ensure our campus remains safe, including collaboration with the DuPage County Health Department, and following IDPH and CDC guidelines.

The individual was last in Butler Junior High on Monday, November 2, 2020. The individual notified the school district of a positive result received on Sunday, November 8th.

In following local health agency protocols, and following their guidance, the district thoroughly assessed the circumstances and identified that no individuals have been in "close contact" at school with the individual during their infectious period (November 4th and November 5th). The Illinois Department of Public Health defines "close contact" as any individual who is within six feet of a COVID-19 positive individual for 15 minutes or longer, even while wearing a mask.

The district progress monitors weekly in an effort to ensure compliance with local health department guidelines and protocols. Beyond All Limits, we continue to recommit to the established standards to ensure our schools remain safe, secure, and healthy.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools
