11.04.20 Positive COVID Notification Outside of School

November 4, 2020

Dear Butler D53 Parents and Staff,

The purpose of this letter is to notify our school community of a positive case of COVID-19 at Butler Junior High. Prior to and since receiving the notification, our district has followed all protocols to ensure our campus remains safe, including collaboration with the DuPage County Health Department, and following IDPH and CDC guidelines.

The individual was last in Butler Junior High on Friday, October 30, 2020 and became symptomatic on Monday, November 2, 2020. The individual notified the school district of a positive result today.

In following local health agency protocols, and following their guidance, the district thoroughly assessed the circumstances and identified that no individuals have been in "close contact" at school with the individual during their infectious period. The District was notified that a confirmed close contact occurred outside of school over the weekend and the exposed individual was notified. The Illinois Department of Public Health defines "close contact" as any individual who is within six feet of a COVID-19 positive individual for 15 minutes or longer, even while wearing a mask.

The district progress monitors weekly in an effort to ensure compliance with local health department guidelines and protocols. Beyond All Limits, we continue to recommit to the established standards to ensure our schools remain safe, secure, and healthy.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools
