Letter to Families and Staff 8.18.20

Dear Butler D53 Families and Staff,

At last evening's Special Board of Education Meeting, the Butler D53 Board approved a modification to the reopening of schools that was previously approved at the July 30, 2020 Special Board of Education meeting. The Modified Option 4 provides 1/2 day in-person instruction during the morning, and 1/2 day remote instruction during the afternoon for the first two weeks of school. The Modified Option is meant to assist in transition into full day, in-person instruction.

This Modified Option 4 will then shift into full in-person instruction beginning September 8, 2020. This modification is for families who chose full day in-person instruction. Families who chose remote learning will have no change as they will remain in remote learning until the end of the first quarter (Butler Junior High School) or first trimester (Brook Forest).

Beginning with the first day of school, the D53 faculty and staff will provide in-person and remote learning from their classrooms and offices. Teachers will remain in the building each day to utilize the technology infrastructure provided by the district in an effort to deliver a high quality learning experience for all our students. Our faculty and staff begin the new school year tomorrow with Teacher Institute Days to further prepare for our students.

We continue to work tirelessly and steadfastly to adhere to safety measures and expectations set forth in the ISBE/IDPH guidelines. Our students, families, faculty and staff’s safety is our top priority.

Later today, our building principals, Dr. Prosen and Ms. Prola, will provide specific information about expectations for the first days of school. Additionally, Ms. Zaniewski will provide information on the school bus.

Thank you for being a valued partner in education. Beyond All Limits - this will be a year like no other, but know you are not alone -  we are in this together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul O'Malley
Superintendent of Schools
