Letter to Families and Staff 8.14.20

Dear Butler D53 Families and Staff,

We are incredibly excited about the beginning of the next school year that is quickly approaching. We look forward to welcoming our students back into our school buildings and embarking on a safe and successful school year. I'd like to thank all of our teachers and staff who continue to go above and beyond in preparation of the new year as well as our families for their continued support and partnership. As a district, we are prepared for the start of school and opening our doors.

Our principals have presented scheduling options to the Board of Education and again at the Education Committee this morning that can be utilized for our students attending school in-person as well as remotely. Dr. Prosen and Ms. Prola are currently working on videos that further discuss modifications made to our school buildings, plans for the new school year, and logistics. You will receive their Monday Message next week with additional information.

Yesterday, school districts across the state received new guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, specifically related to the opening of schools. Our administrative team and Board of Education continue to review the documentation and updated guidance as it applies to our district plans.

We continue to believe in the Illinois State Board of Education's strong recommendation for in-person instruction.

I know that we need to partner together to make this school year a success and I look forward to your support.

Stay safe, be well - enjoy the weekend,

Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools
