Letter to Families 8.7.20

Dear Butler D53 Families and Staff,

We continue to appreciate your commitment, partnership, and cooperation with us as we prepare for the safe and successful start of the new school year in these most difficult times. Thank you to all of you who participated in our Q&A sessions with our building principals last week. We found these sessions to be avenues for very important dialogue.

Further, thank you to all of the families that inquired about more details with respect to the in-person and remote learning opportunities to begin the new school year. Our district is poised to provide a robust in-person and remote or parallel learning environment through the Flip the Classroom (FTC) model program. We look forward to welcoming more than half of our families back into the physical classrooms and engaging with others through FTC in their homes.

Our principals, Dr. Chad Prosen (Brook Forest) and Ms. Andrea Prola (Butler Junior High) will communicate further details to families in each building next week and will be presenting more detailed scheduling information at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, August 10th at 6:30 PM. I remain confident in the delivery of parallel learning environments between the students attending in-person and remotely.

Since the results of our initial survey over the summer, the district has been planning for delivering instruction in multiple modalities. For our families that have chosen the remote learning option, we have designed and developed a Technology Resource Hub that will serve as a knowledge center for navigation of materials and resources. You will find short video tutorials, guides, and other helpful information related to technologies used throughout our district. Additionally, there is a support request form should you need further assistance. The Technology Resource Hub will undergo regular updates to continue meeting the needs of our families.

We look forward to continuing to communicate necessary information to our families over the course of the next few weeks.

Stay safe, be well - enjoy the weekend,

Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools

A special note about August 10, 2020 Policy Committee Meeting, and Board of Education Meeting.

The Policy Committee Meeting will be Virtual via Zoom at 5:00PM.

The August 10, 2020 Board of Education Regular Meeting will begin with a Public Hearing on the intent to sell working cash fund bonds, and then progress into the Regular Meeting. The Board of Education will be physically present because of Board development that will take place during the Closed Session. The Board requests that the community attend virtually via Zoom. We cannot accommodate all members of the community and adhere to the state guidelines. Any member who wishes to address the Board will have an opportunity via Zoom for all to hear. Thank you for your consideration of this request.
