Letter to Families and Staff 7.24.2020

Dear Butler D53 Families and Staff,

This morning, the Education Committee met, reviewed, and discussed four different options that were presented for reopening schools, along with survey results from staff and families. The Committee heard from administration, the Oak Brook Education Association, staff, parents, and community members who shared their perspectives and concerns, as did the chair and co-chair of the Committee. The conversation was very productive in discussing the reopening of our schools. The full presentation can be found in the BoardDocs agenda for the Education Committee.

An opportunity for further discussion will take place on Monday at 4:00 PM during the Virtual Community Outreach Committee meeting. I encourage the participation of our District 53 family.

Regardless of the outcome, Butler School District 53 is prepared to accommodate the mandated health guidance in our physical spaces as well as implementing a robust remote or parallel learning option through Flip the Classroom (FTC) model program.

Please be aware that as the situation continues to evolve our plans can also. The Board of Education will take a position of adoption at a future Board of Education meeting. Thank you for your input, questions, and patience as we finalize this decision.

Stay safe, be well - enjoy the weekend,
Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools
