May 29, 2020 Letter to Families and Staff

Dear Butler School District 53 Families and Staff,

I would like to take this opportunity in my final Friday, 2019-2020 school year letter to wish you a safe, relaxing, and memorable summer.

If you have learned anything from my weekly correspondence during our time quarantined, I hope that you take with you the important fact that you are not alone. The students of Butler D53 are our salient responsibility. But you, as a parent/guardian, or staff member are also extremely significant. Butler D53 is a community; we are “family”, and we are in this together. Please reach out over the summer if you have any questions or concerns. I would also like to hear about any exciting adventures, discoveries, and/or accomplishments!

Our teachers, administration team, and I will be preparing for an exemplary 2020-2021 school year and are looking forward to continuing on the path of excellence as a Future Ready School. Furthermore, many exciting summer school opportunities will be available. We hope that you take advantage of these offerings.

I want to communicate with you an exciting goal for Butler D53! A new Vision and Mission Statement will be presented at the June 8, 2020 Board of Education meeting for Board approval and adoption. These statements have come together after faculty, student, parent, and Board input, and they encapsulate the goals and direction of D53 in its vision, and mission. Here is a sneak peek of the final products:

Vision Statement
To foster a community school district where students, teachers, administration, and parents strive to achieve success beyond all limits in learning, relationship building, and self-actualization.

Mission Statement
Butler D53 will provide an evolving, innovative, and inclusive educational experience for all students to achieve academic excellence, social maturity, physical and emotional well-being, and an appreciation for cultural diversity.

Lastly, ISBE is working on providing greater guidance for all school districts in the state of Illinois in regards to the upcoming school year. We anticipate receiving set guidance sometime in the near future. The district will be diligent in communicating this guidance that will be consistent with applicable state and local orders.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your student’s academic journey.

Stay well, be safe -

Dr. Paul O’Malley
