Butler students earn Citizenship Award

Four Butler School District 53 students were awarded the Oak Brook Education Association Citizenship (OBEA) Award.

Brook Forest 5th graders Lauren Bilshausen and Quentin Cuenca were named during the 5th grade DARE Graduation, which was held virtually with students and teachers.

Butler Junior High students Hali Dib and Arjun Shah were named during the 8th Grade Graduation, also held virtually. Athletic Director Mike Finke presented the award to the 8th grade honorees. “It is a great pleasure to present the award to you, whom have contributed so much to our school,” he said.

Colleen Tarantino, vice-president of the OBEA and retiring teacher, presented the 5th grade award. She said that this year a record number of students were nominated, making the decision very difficult. Both Lauren and Quentin were described as “kind to others, caring for all students, positive attitude, respectful to peers and staff, dedication to schoolwork and extra-curriculars.”

Each year, one 5th grade girl and one 5th grade boy and one 8th grade girl and one 8th grade boy are selected by the teachers to receive this award.  Students are nominated for their service to the school, strong academic skills, courtesy to peers and staff, leadership skills, good sportsmanship and school spirit.

Congratulations to these four well-deserving students!
