Honoring our principals

Honoring our principals
A school principal has a daunting task. They must create a learning environment that sparks innovation and enthusiasm for learning. They must build the culture that values each and every student and every staff member. In Butler School District 53, “Our principals do just that,” said Superintendent Dr. Heidi Wennstrom. She and the Board of Education honored the principals and assistant principals at the Board meeting Oct. 17 as part of National Principals’ Month. The occasion honors the work and commitment of school leaders throughout Illinois. “You deserve to be celebrated,” she said to Principals Amy Read and Jason Bednar and Assistant Principals, Lisa Owen and Marybeth Marinier. A principal’s job has shifted dramatically in recent years, she said. Students no longer are required to just memorize facts. They are expected to be consumers of information and creators of knowledge. “In District 53, our principals and assistant principals ensure that others amplify their voices and fulfill their greatest potential,” she said. The four were given tokens of appreciation from the Board and administration.
