Superintendent Elect Dr. Paul O’Malley has released the results of the survey of faculty, parents and staff on the attributes desired in the hiring of a new principal at Butler Junior High.

Fifty members of the school community responded to the survey. The survey asked respondents about their feelings on the desired attributes of a new leader. Respondents noted that the next BJH principal should have experience as a successful communicator with students, staff, and parents.

They also ranked the top personal qualities of a new leader: collaborator, trustworthy, intelligent and compassionate. Respondents also said that communicating, recruiting/retaining quality teachers, positive student interaction and improving school climate and culture are the most important areas of responsibility for a new principal. Also, respondents ranked the most important issues facing BJH as the climate and culture, learning opportunities for all students, professional development for staff and teachers, and student achievement.

“These are just highlights and we encourage all of our stakeholders to read the report,” said Dr. O’Malley. The report details raw data, graphics, and comments. He also noted that it was important to share the results of the survey and to collaborate in the choosing of the next principal. “We have an incredible staff, teachers, and parents and really value their collective input,” he said. Interviews of finalist candidates will be held on June 14.

“We are confident that we will secure a candidate whose credentials reflect the high-quality standards of our District,” said Dr. O’Malley. Current principal Amy Read resigned effective at the end of June.
