For the second year in a row 8 th grader Aditya Badlani won the 2017 DuPage County Spelling Bee and will head
to the national bee in May. Also, Mira Dedhia of McClure Junior High repeated her win as regional spelling bee
champions and will also head to the national bee.
Aditya was one of 27 participants in the regional competition that included students from DuPage area public
and private schools. In Round 7, he spelled “yawmeter,” an instrument for measuring the angular motion
about the normal axis of an airplane.
He will win a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee May 28 to June 2 in National Harbor, Maryland.
