Brook Forest and Butler Junior High students’ artwork chosen to be on display at the West Suburban Consortium for Academic Excellence Brook Forest and Butler Junior High students’ artwork were chosen to be on display at the West Suburban Consortium for Academic Excellence (WSCAE) Expo on Saturday, April 29. The event, which showcases more than 525 pieces of artwork from 15 area school districts, will be held at Cheney Mansion (220 N. Euclid Avenue, Oak Park, IL). The event is free and open to the public from 10:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. This marks the third consecutive year that 15 school districts in WSCAE are hosting the expo to showcase K-8 student artwork. During the expo student artists will be present to discuss their pieces. A number of professional artists from surrounding communities will be on hand to view the artwork and provide feedback. All guests will have the opportunity to submit "fan mail" to the student artists, as well as to highlight what they like most about the pieces. The event will additionally feature members of the Oak Park Art League, who will be leading live art demonstrations. “The choices were made on quality and effort,” said Brook Forest art teacher Mike Divelbiss. “The six artists chosen have worked hard this year and truly embraced the Choice-Based philosophy that they are genuine artists. Their projects were completely developed and completed by the artist,” he said. “The five pieces were chosen among 40 works, all of which were strong contenders. They were chosen by a panel of Butler Staff as well as visiting artists and friends who lent their artistic eyes,” said Butler Junior High art teacher Nina Angelillo. It has been an absolute joy to see these students in their element in the art room this year and I am continuously in awe of their work,” said Angelillo. “We are so proud of the amazing talent of our student artists and look forward to showcase the works for the community,” said Butler District 53 Superintendent Dr. Heidi Wennstrom.
