Superintendent's Message - February 6, 2022

Dear Butler D53 Families and Staff,

On Friday, February 4, 2022, a Sangamon County judge ruled on two cases related to COVD-19 lawsuits. Butler School District 53 is NOT named in either lawsuit.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, District 53 has operated our school buildings with the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff at the forefront of all decision-making. This has allowed our district to be successful in offering in-person learning with strict adherence to local, state, and national guidance. Further, the Board of Education approved the Caring Cadence Plan for Reopening Our Schools 2021-2022 at the August 9, 2021 Regular Meeting - a plan District 53 has been following.

In consultation with District 53's legal counsel, Butler Junior High School and Brook Forest Elementary School will continue following Policy 4:182 Face Coverings that maintains compliance with the current Executive Order as well as our layered mitigation strategies that have been in place since our district returned to in-person instruction in August 2021, including universal mask use. This includes District 53 buildings, events, and transportation.

Should there be any changes to our layered mitigation strategies, I will communicate with you directly. Beyond All Limits, we remain grateful for your continued support and partnership.

Stay well, be safe!

Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools
