4.21.2021 Positive COVID Notification

Dear Butler D53 Parents and Staff,

The purpose of this letter is to notify our school community of a positive case of COVID-19 at Butler Junior High School. Prior to and since receiving the notification, our district has followed all protocols to ensure our campus remains safe, including collaboration with the DuPage County Health Department, and following IDPH and CDC guidelines.

The individual was last in Butler Junior High School on April 16, 2021, and became symptomatic on April 18th. The individual received a positive COVID-19 test result on April 20, 2021 and notified the school district.

In following local health agency protocols, and following their guidance, the district thoroughly assessed the circumstances and identified that there was “close contact” with the positive individual while in school during their infectious period, which began April 16, 2021. Close contacts who are unvaccinated against COVID-19 or haven’t had COVID-19 infection within 90 days are advised to quarantine through 14 days from last exposure to the person with COVID-19, and get tested for current COVID-19 infection, ideally 5-7 days after exposure (even if without symptoms).

The district notified the individual(s) that was confirmed to be in “close contact”. The Illinois Department of Public Health defines "close contact" as any individual who is within six feet of a COVID-19 positive individual for 15 minutes or longer, even while wearing a mask.

The district progress monitors weekly in an effort to ensure compliance with local health department guidelines and protocols. Beyond All Limits, we continue to recommit to the established standards to ensure our schools remain safe, secure, and healthy.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools
