March 20 Letter to families and staff

March 20 Letter to families and staff

Dear Butler School District 53 families and staff,

As Governor JB Pritzker announced today, the state of Illinois is on a mandated “Stay-At-Home” order commencing Saturday, March 20, at 5:00PM. Furthermore, the statewide closure of schools has been extended to April 8th. This is a very serious challenge and we support the governor’s decision to prioritize the health and wellbeing of our community. As the situation develops, we will continue to provide families with regular updates.

We recognize the significant impact the closures have had on every member of our school community, and we remain committed to doing all we can to support our students and families in the days ahead.

Since the beginning of the initial closure, D53 administration has been working hand-in-hand with our teaching staff to ensure the continuity of education for our students is as seamless as possible. Based on previous expectations set forth by the governor, he asked districts to prepare for further extensions of closure. I can share with you that we are dutifully following his expectations and D53 is ready for this extended closure.

I am extremely grateful for our dedicated board members, teachers, support staff, IT department, custodians, and administration team. I am especially thankful and proud of the Butler School District 53 community. I understand the tremendous shift in responsibility, the abrupt change in schedules and routines, as well as the massive amount of information being sent throughout this public health crisis.

The challenges we face ahead are unprecedented but not insurmountable. It is important to stay informed and our D53 team is working hard to ensure that our families are updated accordingly.

We will make it through this uncertain time together; “D53 Strong.”

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul O’Malley
Superintendent of Schools
