Butler Math Teams take First Place

 

The Butler Junior High Math Team took home some big hardware and a clean sweep at two recent competitions. At the Nov. 11 Montini High School competition, the 8th grade team and the 6th grade team both won First Place and the 7th grade team won Second Place. The 8th grade team was comprised of Rama Bhagwat,  Rohan Tolani, Leeland Zhang, Shiven Shah and Aishvarya Godla. The 7th grade team members are Prachi Shah, Priya Dhananjaya, Alexander Hadesman, Lily Gerami and Shiv Goel.  The 6th grade team members are Elena Koulouris, Jenna D'Souza, Arjun Shah, Renee Qin and Anjali Jejerikar.  In the individual rounds, Shiven Shah and Renee Qin both earned First Place for their respective grade levels; Rama Bhagwat and Jenna D'Souza earned Second Place; Anjali Jejerikar earned Third Place and  Aishvarya Godla earned Fourth Place; Shiv Goel, Priya Dhananjaya and Lily Gerami tied for Fifth Place; Rohan Tolani earned Seventhe Place; Arjun Shah earned Ninth Place; and Alexander Hadesman finished earned Tenth Place.

In the afternoon, the team traveled to the Fenwick High School competition and took home a First Place team trophy. The team was made up of Rohan Tolani, Shiven Shah, Ashvarya Godla, Rama Bhagwat, Priya Dhananjaya, Shiv Goel, Natalie Chang, Rohan Ariga, Alexander Hadesman, Saanvi Sethi, Prachi Shah and SiddarthMalapati. The two-person team of Rohan Tolani and Ashvarya Godla took Second Place in the speed round competition. Finally, among the top 10 individual scores Butler had a clean sweep with were with Rohan Tolani coming in Third Place; Prachi Shah in Second Place and Shiven Shah in First Place. Additionally, Rama Bhagwat in Sixth Place Aishvarya Godla came in Eighth Place. Their next competition is at the Latin School in late January.

Coaches Jill Vonnahme and Patti Hart commended the students. “Your effort and endurance were remarkable!” said Vonnahme. “You make your school, coaches, parents and community very proud!”
