Community / District Profile

Nestled between business and corporate enterprise, Butler School District
53 is called home to some 450 children. Traditionally, this district
maintains a fairly consistent community profile derived predominately
from the upper economic level. Parents with professional careers and
affiliations along with a veteran faculty set high standards for goals
and expectations. Student performance reflects these high standards
as District 53 students rank among the highest in the state.
In an atmosphere where cultural difference is both honored and cherished,
students are treated to rich cultural experiences. The racial makeup
of the district population is very diverse. According to the Bilingual
Census, there are approximately 140 students for whom one of
twenty-four different foreign languages is the primary
language of their households.
There are two schools in Butler School District 53, Brook
Forest Elementary School and Butler Junior High.
According to the 2007 Illinois School Report Card, students are treated
to small class sizes with an elementary school teacher to student
ratio of 11.6 to 1. The district enjoys a stable teaching staff with
an average teaching experience of 14.6 years. Additionally, 52.5 percent
of the teachers hold a masters degree or above.
