BJH Concert Band

The Butler Junior High Concert Band will join their Hinsdale Central High School counterparts in a combined performance at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 at Hinsdale Central. The concert is free and open to the community. Combining the bands is a new tradition begun this year to help enrich students’ learning experience and performance, said Butler Band Director Jordan Yi. “The students learn from each other through the rehearsal and performance process,” Yi said. The process of learning difficult material, blending the bands and using non-verbal communication to lead the band is quite challenging, he said. The Butler Junior High Concert Band will perform Aria by J.S. Bach, arranged by Terry Nowak; and Antecedium by Ed Huckeby. The Hinsdale Central Wind Symphony and the BJH Concert Band will combine to perform Our Kingsland Spring by Samuel Hazo. “This will be an exciting opportunity for the students and one that I hope is inspirational to the future of music education between our schools,” he said.
