About Brook Forest Brook Forest School is located in Oak Brook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. It is an elementary building, servicing children in grades K-5. Currently, there are approximately 300 students in attendance. The school offers a strong academic curriculum with many extracurricular activities. Brook Forest School was opened in 1971. The “open classroom” concept was popular at the time and the building was constructed with a learning center in the middle and two pods branching off. The pods had no interior walls. Teachers and students learned in their own open space. That system lasted one year before walls were constructed turning the octagon shaped pod into pie and rectangular shaped classrooms. A seven-room addition was built in 1984 in a more traditional square classroom style. The Brook Forest mascot is the dolphin. Students who were here in the beginning years report that the dolphin was chosen because it is intelligent, communicative and has a friendly personality; just like the Brook Forest student! We are proud to call ourselves the Brook Forest Dolphins! For more information, please contact the Principal, Mrs. McCabe at 630.325.6888.
