Mrs. Elizabeth Sompolski

Bio:
I have had the pleasure of teaching in District #53 since 1990, when I was hired as a 5th-grade teacher. Prior to my Brook Forest position, I taught fifth grade in Brookfield. After completing my first year in this district, I eloped with my co-teacher, Peter, and since then we have expanded our family with two wonderful daughters. Teaching third graders has been my passion since 1993, when I made a grade-level change due to enrollment fluctuation.

When I’m not teaching, you will find me enjoying my family time, either at home or in some warm vacation spot soaking up the sun. I’m also obsessed with decorating, so if I’m currently not busy working on some creative project, my wheels are spinning working toward my next.

Education:
Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, Northern Illinois University
Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, St. Xavier University

Goal:
My goal is simple: to provide the students of District #53 with a safe, inviting learning environment in which they feel free to take educational risks, and are better for being here. I want my students to desire knowledge and discover the magic of learning that exists in each and every one of them.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?
I am blessed to have been raised by my mom, who is also a teacher, and has always had a passion for the profession. She was and is such an inspiration in my life; it seemed only natural that I, too, would enter the education field. It’s a good thing I did, because I have found a profession of which I am proud and truly love.
